It was success all round for the 35th Annual Round Rarotonga Road Race Week of Running. The Edgewater Resort & Spa hosted a large percentage of the runners and their friends and families thanks to some great accommodation deals and bonuses for athletes. Many were return guests who are part of the Resort’s Coral Club loyalty programme and once again enjoyed the benefits the Resort extends to its members.
We also hosted the infamous Martin Parnell from Canada who was here on his “Cooks Quest 100”. Martin spends his time raising funds for the charity “Right to Play” for Kids, and on this trip, ran 100km, circumnavigating the island three times for his charity! Following Martin’s quest was NZ television personality, Meghan Mutrie, who tackled the 31km race as well. Meghan joined Martin on one of his other runs when he ran 250 marathons in one year!
In-house as well was female race winner Lesley Turner-Hall who vows to come back again, and bring lots of friends!
The Resort also hosted 3 Japanese marathon runners, who tackled the 31km road run, and to make it a full marathon, ran 11km before the race!
The Awards dinner the day after the race was held at The Edgewater Resort & Spa and was a great success with over 200 guests attending the prizegiving ceremony and scrumptious buffet dinner.
Edgewater staff were also part of the success, with Food & Beverage Manager Roland Neururer finishing the 31km race in 5th place overall and taking out 2nd local male and Jennie George from Sales & Marketing was first woman home on the 10km run.
The remainder of the week included the Hash House Harriers Birthday Run, the Round the Rock Relay and the Nutters Coast to Coast Cross-Island Run.
The Edgewater Resort & Spa look forward to continued sponsorship of the event and great deals for athletes staying at the Resort once again.
