Rarotonga Geography
The island of Rarotonga is 32 km (20 miles) in circumference. The highest peak stands at 2,140 ft (658 m) above sea level. Rarotonga is surrounded by a lagoon, which extends to a surrounding reef, then slopes off steeply to deep water. Rarotonga is encircled by a main ring road that traces the coast. In places there is also a secondary ring road slightly further inland. Due to the mountainous interior, there is no road crossing through the centre of the island.
